Anti Wrinkle Injections – The Facts

What are anti wrinkle injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections are commonly referred to as ‘Botox’, short for Botulinum toxin. This is a naturally occurring protein that causes the muscles of the face to relax, consequently smoothing out wrinkles. It is the UK’s most popular cosmetic treatment for the removal of wrinkles. At Whitecart Dental Care our anti wrinkle injections are carried out by Dr Carole McClure using Azzalure, a botulinum toxin type-A product, specifically designed for use in aesthetic treatments.

What areas do they treat?

Anti wrinkle injections not only smooth existing wrinkles, the can also prevent new ones from forming. They are effective in treating the following areas

Upper face:
Frown Lines (between the eyebrows)
Forehead line
Top of the nose (bunny lines)

Eyebrows/hooded eyes
Wrinkles around the eyes (crows feet)
Under the eyes (tear trough)

Lower face:
Lipstick lines (around the mouth)
Chin (to prevent dimpling)
Jawline and neck

Is the treatment painful?

The needle used to administer the injection is very small and thin, which coupled with Dr Carole McClure’s advanced injecting technique means pain is minimal.

How long before I see the results?

Anti-wrinkle injections work by blocking the nerves that contract the muscles, thereby softening the appearance of the line or wrinkle. The skin above the muscles becomes nice and smooth after a period of between three to 14 days. It takes this time for the product to settle, attached itself to the nerve endings and get to work.

How long will the results last?

Everyone is different, but you can expect results to last from 3 – 6 months.

Will I end up with a ‘frozen’ face?

Dr Carole McClure favours a more natural look for her patients, her objective is make them look rested, fresher and younger without freezing their natural facial expressions.

Is there any down time?

Immediately after treatment you may notice a little redness and swelling around the injection sites, this is completely normal and usually fades within 24 hours. We advise that you keep your head as upright as possible and avoid exercise for 24 hours.

Short Term Orthodontics

You’re never fully dressed without a smile!

Your smile is an expression of who you are, it is scientifically proven to be ‘the symbol that is rated with the highest positive emotional content.’ If crooked teeth are giving you a reason not to smile, even if you have previously had braces, short term orthodontic treatment could be the key to achieving beautiful, straight teeth and a smile you’ll love.

What are short term Orthodontics?

Orthodontics have come a long way since the days enduring months of uncomfortable fixed metal braces, scientific advances now mean that many braces are almost invisible, much more comfortable and give patients much quicker results.

Short term Orthodontics generally treat the front 6 to 8 teeth by using brackets and wires on teeth or clear aligners to move the teeth. They are designed for adults who want to improve the appearance of the teeth which are most on display, usually when they smile. The treatment times are around 4 – 9 months with average treatments lasting 6 months.

The treatment we are going to focus on today is the Inman Aligner. The Inman Aligner is a revolutionary appliance, described as the “missing-link” between cosmetic dentistry and orthodontics, that can move teeth at the front of the mouth, safely and quickly. This treatment is carried out by practice owner Carole McClure who has undergone the the extensive Intelligent Alignment Systems training.

What is the Inman Aligner?

The aligner is made of a metal bar which runs along the front of your teeth, and a spring which is located at the back of your front teeth; the individual parts of the aligner work together to push and pull the teeth into position with minimum discomfort. The Inman Aligner is best suited to patients who have previously undergone orthodontic treatment or only require relatively minor adjustments to the front 6 teeth. Throughout the duration of your treatment you will have regular check-ups to ensure every is moving in the right direction!

Am I suitable candidate for an Inman Aligner?

The Inman Aligner is suitable for adults and older teenagers who need mild correction at the front of their mouth, which is often be due to relapse in childhood orthodontic work, it is also effective in cases of slight overcrowding. This treatment only focuses on the front 6 teeth so is unsuitable for anyone with more severe bite problems.

Why choose the Inman Aligner?

The most obvious benefit is the speed of treatment, with most cases reaching their goal of beautiful straight teeth in 4 – 6 months. The aligner is incredibly discreet and uses the latest orthodontic technology to minimise pain and discomfort and reduce pain. Unlike many other orthodontic systems the Inman Aligner it can be removed easily to eat, drink and brush your teeth, this lessens the the risk of bad breath, gum disease and staining.
